Hyderabad, February 21: Managements of professional colleges in Andhra Pradesh today said they will shut down the institutes from February 24 if their demand for reimbursement of at least 50 per cent of the dues of students'' tuition fees under a government scheme was not met.
Though the government has agreed to release Rs 1,000 cr towards fees reimbursement, the managements stuck to their demand that at least 50 per cent of dues of Rs 3,500 cr be released.
"We will reconsider our stand if the government releases 50 per cent of the funds," representatives of the college managements told reporters here after a meeting.
The managements are likely to meet Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy over the issue soon.
Fees reimbursement has become a hot political issue in the state with all opposition parties taking up agitations over it.
While Telugu Desam, BJP, Left parties have been organising agitations on the issue, former Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is currently on a week-long fast demanding that the government release funds for the scheme immediately.
